Tuesday Tunes: May 7, 2013. When Boy Meets Girl (In the Studio) Edition

We here at Half and Half, like the rest of North America, are digging the P!nk/Nate Ruess collaboration, "Just Give Me a Reason".

Their (sometimes indistinguishable) voices and full commitment to the sometimes saccharine lyrics have won us over. And got us thinking of other collaborations/duos featuring vocalists of both genders.

Check out our Fave Five under the cut!

5) Hey Ocean, Big Blue Wave

We love this indie group from Vancouver. While lead vocalist Ashleigh Ball's airy vocals dominate the track, David Beckingham's mellow harmonies make this tune a perfect addition to your summer playlist.

4) Said the Whale, Loveless

Another Vancouver-based band, another ocean-themed band name!

Also, cutest music video EVER.

3)  The Postal Service, Nothing Better

There may be nothing better than The Postal Service, which we think has a slight edge to Ben Gibbard's other musical venture, Death Cab for Cutie. We love how the delivery of the lyrics in this song sound like dialogue between both vocalists. And those strings when the female vocals come on are divine.

Basically, this song is timeless. Don't believe us? The Postal Service performed the song at Coachella this year. It was originally released in 2004.

2) Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, Ain't No Mountain High Enough

Maybe we spoke too soon. THIS song is timeless.

1) Stars, Your Ex-Lover is Dead

Welcome to the OC, bitches. Thanks, Summer, Seth, Ryan and Marisa, for bringing this song and band to the masses.

The soaring vocals and gentle instrumentation of this song even managed to elevate that (beloved) hot mess of a show, proving once again that some emotions and experiences are best conveyed through music.
